Update: I am out of hospital - thanks for the lovely comments

Hi everyone, thanks for all the wonderful messages and comments I got from everyone after I let you all know that I was going into hospital for surgery on Monday.

I am now out of hospital and recovering at home. Unfortunately the surgery didn't go very well at all. There were lots of complications and eventually the surgeon decided not the complete the planned operation because it became too risky. I ended up staying in hospital for longer than expected because of the horrible pain.

The good news is that I am now at home recuperating. They are planning on getting one of the top surgeons in the state involved to give some advice on whether there is anything else that can be done for me, so I am hopeful that something might come of that.

The bad news is that the surgery was on my eyes, which means that reading and using the computer is very difficult for me. I won't be able to stay on long after this post I don't think. Although I can't read very well, I have been listening to audio books. I listened the Pride and Prejudice and I am half way through Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, read by Stephen Fry, who is absolutely hilarious as you might expect.

Anyway, I just wanted to give you all an update and say thanks for all the wonderful comments that everyone left me. I will be totally recovered in 3 weeks, but in the meantime I will try and keep up tp date with everything and everyone.

  1. Glad you are out of the hospital. Hoping your recovery goes smoother than your surgery. Sending positive thoughts your way!!!

  2. Have a good rest and get well soon.

  3. Hope you're feeling better in no time! Thank goodness for audio books! Have a good weekend!

  4. I sincerely hope you get better soon! This sounds like a taxing experience but if something can ease my pain anytime (and any type of pain, physical or psychological) - it's definitely Harry Potter. Enjoy! :)

  5. poor thing! I do hope you get better soon and that subsequent surgeries are smooth as silk. As soon as you said it was on your eyes I thought "audio book!" only to see that in your very next line! Great minds... My little sis had eye surgery a few years ago, took her a month to recover, she listened to all 4 Lord of the Rings books (including the Hobbit) unabridged and it was pretty perfect. I review audio books, and some of them are really terrific.

  6. I'm glad you are home and feeling better. I'm sorry to hear there were so many complications :( Try to relax and enjoy your audio books!

  7. I was going to ask you about the surgery but didn't want to pry. I sure hope they can figure out a way to do this surgery successfully. Until then, hope you recover from this round quickly.

  8. Oh dear, sorry to hear your op did not go as expected, hope it can be resolved for you soon. Meanwhile keep reading and computing to the minimum and start listening. Have you looked into podcasts, there are some great ones available.

  9. I am happy to hear that you are home, but sad the outcome was not better. I empathize: Have had a number of eye surgeries & procedures, & struggle every day to retain the eyesight I have left. It is a frightening battle & I send you support, encouragement, and my very best wishes for an excellent outcome.

  10. Please take a good rest! wishing you a speedy recovery!

  11. So glad you are back home where you are comfortable as can be expected. Recuperating seems to work better at home rather than the hospital. Sending hugs your way!

  12. I'm glad you are home recuperating but I wish things had gone better for you. That must be frustrating. Relax and recover.

  13. I am so sorry to hear that you need an operation and it didn't go well! I guess the only upside is you will have one of the best operating soon which means you may get better results!

I hope you are feeling a bit better soon. Rest and relax and get better!
