There was a very interesting post I saw on Smitten With Books recently, entitled: How do you feel about memes? It was a timely question because it was somthing that I have been thinking about lately. I recently cut out a lot of my special features, and have been thinking about narrowing it down a little burther by cutting out at least one the memes I currently participate in. Not because I dislike them, but because I am finding it very difficult with work at the moment to find the time to keep up with them all.
It's a good questions though - how many memes are too many memes.
If you are interested in this, I suggest that you read her post about it, and the comments that other people have left about the issue. It is interesting reading.

I like memes but there are some that I don't participate in all the time. One that I'm giving up at least temporarily is Friday Finds. I still like to do the IMM and What Are You Reading on Monday, Teaser Tuesday, and Waiting on Wednesday. I also like Book Beginnings on Friday. If I don't have the time then I wouldn't do all of them. Waiting on Wednesdays are ones that can be written in advance and scheduled. I like memes because they are a way to interact with other book bloggers.
I enjoy Memes especially Teaser Tuesday, that is my favourite.
I think they are great for new bloggers, a way to network and a way to figure out what you want your blog to be etc.
I have decided to step back from networking on new blogs now and trying to find favourites of blogs I have started to follow.
I can see why people love IMM but I want to know how people enjoy what they got not just know what they got.
I enjoy reading Friday Recommend Me and Booking through Thursdays also.
They are good for new bloggers to network but I personaly hate deadlines. I like reading some of the memes out there on other ppls blogs but I dont participate in them myself.
The only one I do is hosted at random ramblings and is top ten......the topic changes every week and as long as you put the topic at some point during the week it doesn't matter
I think they were really important when I was starting, both as a way for new readers to find me, and als as a way to not feel completely overwhelmed about having to come up with brand-new material daily. But as time has gone on, some I have found not as helpful as others, some are more of a pain to pull together, and so I am not as religious about participating in all of them as I was to start. I think that's pretty usual.
The only one I do with any frequency is IMM/MM - I love to check out everyone's mailboxes and getting tempted by all the lovely book covers!!
I think memes can be a good way to connect but I do tend to shy away from blogs that are overwhelmingly dominated by memes.
I liked them initially when I was just getting started into blogging...now I have so many blogs in my reader, I've started resenting how much they "clog" my reader. So on days that I'm really pushed for time, the indicate an entry I can skip.
